“Peace and Quite on the lagoon”

We spent the first three nights of our holiday on the smallest boat available (4-5 berth) on the Knysna lagoon. Frankly, 4 adults would be a bit of a squeeze, we were three adults so that was ok. The lagoon itself although seems quite big, there are lots of no go areas ie sand banks and oyster beds however as we just pottered around, dropping the anchor to eat, drink and fish, we didn’t need to go too far. The boats are very well equipped and the staff very helpful. You have to return to base every morning to plug in the boat power wise but that’s ok as the shower/toilet facilities on the boat are basic and the Lightleys base has a good ablution block where you can have a good hot shower and other things! Also whilst the boat is being repowered you can nip into nearby Knysna and stock up with very cheap food and drink. There is a Braai (BBQ) on board which we utilised each night. There are a few places where you can moor overnight. We choose a spot about ten minutes away from base, where you could hear a pin drop and watch the fish leaping out of the water expertly avoiding our fishing rods which we hired from Lightleys for a nominal sum. As we came straight from our flight I organised Champagne and Oysters, an evening and breakfast picnic which lasted for days! Our first night we dined on Oysters, Ostrich kebabs cooked on the braii, a variety of salads, sticky toffee pudding and cheeses. Wonderful! A great start to the holiday and will probably do the same next year.
