How to get to Magugu Dam

How to get there:

Our Lightleys house boat is situated on the Maguga dam in the Northern part of Swaziland and close to Piggs Peak town.

From Johannesburg:

From Johannesburg take the N4 towards Nelspruit. Then take the R33 turn off to Carolina. As you exit Carolina turn right just after you crossed the railway line and continue with R33 towards the T junction connecting with the N17. At this junction turn left and continue to the Oshoek border post. This will take approximately three and a half hours. Once you have crossed the border post drive along the high way for about eight kilometers or look out for the fourth turn off to Piggs Peak town. Once you are on this road continue for about 30 kilometers and then take the Maguga dam turn off to your right. The total time for this drive will be less then five hours including the time you spend at the border post.

From Kruger National Park:

From the Malelane gate proceed straight across the N4 on the R570 towards the Jeppe’s Reef border post. From here just continue on the road to Piggs Peak town. As you exit town look out for the Maguga Turn off at the bottom of the long hill, to your left. This will take you in the order of one and a half hours.

From Durban:

Take the N2 towards Pongola town. Just before Pongola town take the Golela border post turn off. From the border post proceed straight through Big Bend towards Manzini town. When you get to the T junction turn left and continue towards Mbabane City. Just stay on the high way past Mbabane and continue towards Oshoek border post. Just on the other side of Mbabane look out for the Piggs Peak turn off. Once you are on this road continue for about 30 kilometers and then take the Maguga dam turn off to your right. This will take about six and a half hours to drive.
